GAA

1st,2nd and 3rd classes enjoyed 4 weeks of coaching thanks to Ballinrobe GAA and LGFA clubs. We played lots of fun games to improve our ball skills. Thanks to all the coaches and transition year students Niamh and Laura.

5th and 6th class were invited to a fun GAA blitz in the Connacht Centre of Excellence in February. The children really enjoyed mixing with the girls and boys from all different schools and playing in non competitive games. Thanks to GPO Denise Fahy for organising the event and giving the children an opportunity to play in this great venue.

Basketball

In March the children in 5th and 6th classes were invited to play in a local basketball blitz in the Lakeside. Our boys team amalgamated with Partry NS and got all the way to the final!

Soccer

We entered 2 teams in the FAI 5’s soccer competition again this year. Our girls team had some great wins over Tourmakeady, Roundfort and Gortskehy to reach the final. Unfortunately they were narrowly beaten in the final by Robeen NS. Well done to all who participated .

Rugby

Thanks to Jill for facilitating the tag rugby sessions with the senior classes. Great fun was had by all

The pupils researched their own topics and presented their projects to the senior classes. They used different mediums to present their projects. Below are a sample of their excellent work.

On Monday we had the wonderful Cormac from Drumadore kick start our wellness week with fun and energetic drumming workshops. On Tuesday we had a clean up day of the school grounds and local roads. The middle classes also took part in some GAA coaching.

On Wednesday 5th and 6th took part in a blitz in the dome. All classes had a relaxing time painting rocks. On Thursday we made friendship bracelets.

Finally on Friday we enjoyed delicious cakes, buns and treats at our Wellness week bake sale. A big thanks to all our wonderful families who showed off their fabulous baking skills.

1st class joined the Middle Room each day and had great fun with the help our Scientific Sue Kit! We explored magnets with some ‘magic’ tricks making flowers appear and dragons fly ! We also showed how electricity flows around a circuit with our cosmic ball and had fun with forces blowing up our balloons and having balloon races

Finally we explored how materials can change. We turned milk into a solid bone with the help of some vinegar and had some very messy fun by adding water to our super absorbent powder!

The Senior Room conducted investigations to show the effects different liquids have on our teeth . The put raw eggs into water, coffee,cola and vinegar to see if the liquids would stain the egg shells. The results were amazing! Johnny is holding the egg that was in the coffee .We don’t want our teeth looking the that!!

The also showed the importance of calcium for healthy bones . They placed some chicken bones in vinegar to remove the calcium and Kate found they were much easier to break than Kamil’s chicken bones that were not in the vinegar !

The Middle Room learned about the inner and outer planets of the solar system and investigated how craters were formed on the moon by throwing different objects into our moon surface (rice and flour). They then designed and painted their own bright and colourful planets. Finally we watched a video of NASA astronaut Jessica Meir answering children’s questions from the International Space Station!

The junior room were very busy creating painting friendly aliens and making more from play dough , cutting and colouring rockets and even constructing rockets from our big blocks! Well done to everyone
